SYNOPSIS
Chen Uen is the most celebrated artist in the field of comic art in Asia. His work is presented with a unique style of aesthetic that blends art forms of Chinese ink painting and Western painting skills. His agility and skillfulness in using various materials has made himself unparalleled, which is regarded as the “Chen Uen aesthetic.”
Chen Uen has left an indeliable imprint in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. He rocked the art scene in Japan in the 90s with his work To Shu Eiyuden (East Chou Dynasty Hero Legend, 《東周英雄傳》) which has awarded top prizes from the Japanese Cartoonists Association.
This film focuses on Chen Uen’s art career, depicting Chen’s aesthetics of life through representing his works and interviewing with his associates. With Chen Uen and his art works taking center stage, this film also gives a brief overview of comic industry in China and Japan, whom have been exploring and bringing Chen’s legacy to the forefront.

Chen Uen (1958-2017), a Taiwanese artist who established an unique aesthetic in goners ranging across comic, illustration and game art. His legacy is shared in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. After Chen Uen passed away, his students and friends helped to held his artwork exhibition in National Palace Museum in Taiwan, and he is the first manga artist who exhibit artworks in National Palace Museum.
