Lunar New Year Screenings

Asian Pop-Up Cinema held three fully pre-booked screenings in celebration of Lunar New Year as a lead-in for our season 18 festival.
THE MONK AND THE GUN, screened at the Gene Siskel Film Center, is a fable set in Bhutan directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji, whose first feature film in 2019 was nominated for Best International Feature Film.
100 YARDS, a stylish Martial Arts movie co-directed by co-presented with the Chicago Film Office, was screened at the Chicago Cultural Center celebrating the Year of the Dragon. A live pre-show Lion Dance was performed by Master P.C. Leung & Team. We thank the generous support from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago for making this event possible.
PERFECT DAYS, directed by award-winning Wim Wenders, screened at AMC River East 21, is a nominee for Best International Feature Film in the upcoming 96th Academy Awards. The protagonist Hirayama, starring Koji Yakusho, is content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Outside of his structured routine he cherishes music on cassette tapes, books, and taking photos of trees. Through unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world…
